Why our customers use Horse Electrolytes with MSM time and time again...
Horse Electrolytes optimising natural recovery after hard work
Our Horse Electrolytes have added MSM and consist of Dextrose, Sodium, Chloride,
Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium and Vitamins E & C which help give the correct balance of electrolytes and water in the body needed for a quick recovery. This is essential for the functioning of vital organs.
Dextrose is also very important as it carries greater amounts of electrolytes into the system than would otherwise occur. After hard work the Dextrose level is depleted and needs to be restored as this is the body’s fuel and key to a quick recovery. Our high quality horse electrolytes have been formulated with added MSM and Vitamins. These electrolytes for horses have received many 5* reviews from happy customers and come with free UK delivery.
Your horse or pony’s day to day is an absolute joy and privilege to be a part of whether you are competing, enjoying riding club and pony club activities or simply enjoying the countryside when hacking. Electrolytes are an essential part of your nutritional kit to allow your horse or pony to ‘bounce’ back quickly after hard work or excessive sweating.
Your horse’s body can quickly become deficient or dehydrated during periods of great exertion either when training or competing or even just being ridden in hot weather. A 500kg horse can lose up to 5 litres of sweat for every hour of exercise!
Try our Horse Electrolytes if your horse or pony is regularly competing or working hard and prone to sweating. The added MSM and Vitamins work with the Electrolytes to ensure the horse’s body has all the right nutrients to work and recover effectively.

Electrolytes and Dextrose
The discovery that the correct mixture/levels of dextrose and salts are absorbed together and pass quickly through the gut wall has been described as one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of the twentieth century.
Dextrose carries far greater amounts of electrolytes into the system than would otherwise occur. Water is then attracted into the body by osmosis. This is the basis for modern sports drinks and is the standard UNICEF treatment for dehydrated children in the Third World.
After hard work the dextrose level in the blood stream is depleted. This is the body’s fuel and needs to be restored to provide the energy for a quick recovery.
Sodium, Potassium and Chloride
The major part of the horse’s body is made up of body fluids which consist mainly of water containing soluble salts known as electrolytes. The most important electrolytes are Sodium, Potassium and Chloride with small amounts of bicarbonate, magnesium, calcium and other trace minerals.
MSM
MSM has been successfully used to ease pain and stiffness in horses for many years. It is a soluble form of organic sulphur which is a vital constituent of joint fluid and connective tissue. It is included in the electrolyte mixture because it provides the greatest benefits under the same conditions that extra electrolytes are required.
Vitamins
Vitamin requirements are higher during periods of stress and their inclusion fits in very neatly with the use of electrolytes. Particular attention has been paid to the antioxidant vitamins E and C.
Citric acid
Citric acid is a natural organic acid found in many fruits. It has an attractive taste and raises the flow of saliva. It also increases the availability of some of the trace minerals in the body fluids by the process of chelation.
Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) | 6,000mg/kg |
Vitamin C | 6,000mg/kg |
Dextrose | 3.2% |
Sodium | 23% |
Potassium | 12.5% |
Chloride | 46% |
MSM | 3% |
Magnesium | 0.50% |
Calcium | 0.45% |
Electrolytes are most effective when mixed in with the daily feed, splitting between feeds if possible. Alternatively dissolve in 5 to 10 litres of water. If it is sprinkled on the feed before and after competition it is essential that fresh water is available. The object of the exercise is to replace body fluids of which water is the main component. Water by itself will actually dilute electrolyte reserves.
- Feed between 30g & 90g daily (2 to 6 level measures) depending on sweat loss
- In moderate work feed 2 level measures (30g) per day
- In hard work feed 4 level measures (60g) per day
If heavy sweating occurs, for instance during an endurance event feed 6 level measures per day.
Fresh water must always be available after administering electrolytes. Water is the major constituent of body fluids.

Have any questions?
No, most likely your horse or pony will have periods of hard work leading up to competition. Horse Electrolytes are extremely beneficial when fed regularly for horses in hard work and who sweat excessively.
Yes. A horse will not self-regulate its salt intake. Salt licks are a good addition to Horse Electrolytes.
Our Horse Electrolytes with added MSM can simply be added to feed. Please make sure your horse has access to fresh water at all times.
